Our History

HAMAKOM was the vision of our two Senior Rabbis - Rabbi Stewart Vogel and Rabbi Richard Camras - who brought our communities together to be The Place for you.

We are a center of Jewish life that provides meaning and purpose for Jews of the West San Fernando & Conejo Valleys. Our vibrant and dynamic Jewish community – a neighborhood – in which our synagogue is a sacred center, a communal home, and hub for our members and all others who wish to grow their Jewish identities, spirit, and communal connections.

HAMAKOM welcomes individuals, couples, and families of all backgrounds – including interfaith, single-parent, blended families, and individuals with special needs – we believe HAMAKOM can be a spiritual home for everyone.

We invite you to explore our Synagogue, our Early Childhood Center and Religious School, and our Adult Groups to see how HAMAKOM can serve your entire family.

Hamakom  Is:

  • A modern, egalitarian congregation, pre-school, religious school, adult education and worship center,  with an innovative approach to Conservative Jewish values
  • A warm and inviting atmosphere celebrating Torah and the traditions of Jewish life through the values of education, spirituality and community
  • A place where bridges are built to strengthen Jewish life and enhance relations with other faith communities

Everyone’s unique. Yet no matter where you are in your life, you can experience Jewish life to its fullest with Hamakom.

Some look to a synagogue for inspiring messages from the Rabbis. Others want songful prayers from the Hazzanim (Cantors). Still others simply want to be part of a social congregation and participate in programs that exemplify Jewish living. At HAMAKOM, you’ll find exactly what you want — in a home for long-term spiritual growth that celebrates every step of the journey.

For children, HAMAKOM is a place to flourish and find their Jewish identity. For adults, it’s a place to gather, worship and socialize with others who share similar beliefs and values. For extended family, it’s a place to share holidays and celebratory events that create strong memories and even stronger ties.

HAMAKOM is more than a synagogue, religious school and pre-school — it is a community. We’re a caring community of people — each unique like you — looking to grow and share the Jewish journey together.

HAMAKOM is a member of the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism
