Programs for Adults

Whether you are looking to meet new members, celebrate holidays with the community, learn from our clergy and others, or join us for special events, our annual line-up of special adult programs is always full, and you’re always welcome. Some recent highlights include parenting workshops, social events, and our Scholar in Residence weekend.

Chai & Sababa - 20s & 30s

Are you in your 20s or 30s? Check out our thriving new groups with opportunities to connect with Jews your age at a combination of religious and purely social programs.

Guys’ Night

Join us on the 2nd Thursday of the month for an opportunity to take time to recharge, think a little, and connect with other men. Slow down and enjoy a thoughtful evening with friends and set aside a few nights this year for YOU! Enjoy a catered buffet dinner, drinks, a prominent speaker, and discussions addressing everything from relationships to sports, with a little “Jewish” thrown in. Led by clergy.

Men’s Club

Men’s Club is a vital part of congregational life. We hold various social, religious, family and community-oriented events throughout the year, as well as a regular meeting the first Tuesday of each month. We have programs designed to reach members of all ages. Men’s Club sponsors and coordinates a variety of activities, including the Annual Purim Carnival, educational and informative guest speakers, poker night, bowling night, a men’s night out, and our ever-popular annual Scotch tasting. The Men’s Club also sponsors a softball team in the Synagogue Softball League.

Sisterhood

The Sisterhood of HAMAKOM is a diverse group of women who join together in friendship and collaboration to design programs that support the social, spiritual and educational needs of the women of the synagogue, conservative movement and greater community through fund-raising and social action initiatives. Please join us at HAMAKOM on the first Wednesday of the month for Sisterhood meetings.

The Next Chapter

The Next Chapter (TNC) was created to serve the “empty nester” crowd, those with children in their 20 & 30s. TNC hosts social, holiday, and educational programs throughout the year, including special discussions and workshops to help parents thrive during “the next chapter” of their lives.

Adult Education

Adults of all ages are invited to learn with our clergy and featured guest teachers. Some classes are held weekly or monthly all year long, while others begin at different points throughout the year. Visit our Adult Education page for details.

THE PLACE FOR FILMS

Watch films in your home at your convenience and then join fellow film buffs on the third Thursday of the month (unless a holiday interferes) to talk about them, usually on Zoom, occasionally in person. The films are selected for their insights, their Jewish themes, to make you think and to make you laugh. You can visit our website here.

COMMUNITY GARDEN

North Campus has a Community Garden off the parking lot, growing produce for our local food banks and for the community. Volunteers meet monthly to tend to the garden and to harvest its offerings. Children are encouraged to help out with adult supervision - a great opportunity to learn where their food comes from. For more information, email Gil Solomon at californiaMD@aol.com.
