Rabbi Stewart Vogel is the co-senior Rabbi of Hamakom along with Rabbi Richard Camras. Hamakom was the vision of both Rabbi's to create a community that is both welcoming and embracing everyone interested in Jewish life, Torah, and culture, irrespective of personal histories, demographics, or levels of observance.

 

Rabbi Vogel first came to Temple Aliyah in 1993 where he helped  establish  a dynamic, vibrant synagogue whose membership is involved in many aspects of the Jewish community. He is recognized as an innovator in synagogue programming and his work in building bridges within the Jewish and interfaith communities. 

Rabbi Vogel has held many positions within the Jewish community. He is the immediate past-president of the Rabbinical Assembly (the international organization of conservative rabbis). He is a past-president of the Rabbinical Assembly of the Pacific Southwest Region and the Southern California Board of Rabbis. He is also the co-author of the national bestseller The Ten Commandments: The Significance of God’s Laws in Everyday Life. 

 

Rabbi Vogel is a Rabbinic Fellow of the Shalom Hartman Institute in Jerusalem. He received an honorary doctorate from the Jewish Theological Seminary of America (2017) and received the Mickey Weiss Outstanding Alumnus Award from the American Jewish University (formerly known as University of Judaism), in 2005. 

 

Rabbi Vogel holds a B.A., B.H.L. and teaching credentials from the American Jewish University Los Angeles, an M. A. and ordination from the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York, with an emphasis in Jewish education. 

 

Rabbi Vogel is a native of Los Angeles, is married (Rodi) and the proud father of four children.
