Judy Battaglia brings over two decades of experience in Jewish education and higher academia to Hamakom as director of The Spot. She continues to serve on the faculty at California Lutheran University, where she teaches in the Department of Philosophy. A published poet, essayist, and ethnographer, Judy integrates creativity and scholarship into every aspect of her work.
At The Spot, Judy fosters a joyful, camp-style learning environment where children engage through play, imagination, and discovery. This year's theme, Tzedek (justice), is especially fitting, as Judy is a lifelong advocate and ally for marginalized and underserved communities.
Judy’s wide-ranging interests include collecting rocks, crystals, and seashells, spending time with friends, family, and community, as well as reading, dancing, singing, and exploring both the natural and fashion worlds. A passionate animal lover, she brings warmth and energy wherever she goes.
Judy is thrilled to be part of the Hamakom team. Having already contributed meaningfully to both the JLC and The Spot, she has formed strong bonds with our students, who adore her just as much as she adores them.
