Hamakom exists because we came together to create the synagogue of the 21st century. We can and will achieve that by continuing our work together to define what we want and need that future to be. Please join me at one of our upcoming Community Gatherings to share feedback and questions to influence our upcoming Rabbinic search decisions and how the clergy, staff, and Board of Directors lead us over the coming years.

Hamakom will host these sessions on campus in early August, and our consultants, the Executive Service Corps of Southern California (ESC), will facilitate them as a third party. An important element of ESC's engagement is to listen and learn from as many members of our community as possible about their thoughts and feelings for the future of Hamakom.

Please RSVP to one of the three sessions below, preferably based on your focus area, but you can attend any session as the guided discussion is the same:
  1. Monday, 8/4 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., focused on input from adults without children at home
  2. Sunday, 8/10 from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m., focused on "Shabbat Regulars" (those who regularly participate in religious services)
  3. Sunday, 8/10 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., focused on young families (adults with children at home)
L'Shalom,
Paula Russell
President, Board of Directors

Plan to bring a notepad and pen, and give some thought to the following three subjects before you arrive:
  • The culture that Hamakom aspires to achieve.
  • The values that are represented by that culture.
  • How can the culture and values be reflected in a new rabbi.
Many thanks for participating in this important process. If you're unable to attend any of these gatherings, you will have other opportunities to share feedback. Note, though, these three meetings are unique parts of the process, and we encourage attendance regardless of participation in any other forums.
